Citizen Action’s Organizing Director, Maurice Mitchell, paid a visit to the Ft. Orange club in Albany.
The club represents a huge problem with New York’s current campaign finance system. Almost every night when the legislature is in town, political fundraisers are held at fancy clubs and restaurants like this one.
At these fundraisers, lobbyists write huge checks that fund the reelection campaigns of our representatives.
This system has to stop. Click here and tell Albany to pass public financing of elections this year!

Public financing of elections would give even more of an advantage to incumbents. They already have name recognition. It’s challengers that need money to compete.
Stop wasting money by having elaborate expensive parties for political events
Great idea to make a video. Print is so last century, unfortunately
Terrific succinct script.
Fancy mansion visual. Good communicator! Even the
way Maurice was bending over to “fit” was a good image for
the outsider that we voters have become. One had to remind oneself that he was the legitimate visitor to Fort Orange Club.
What is the meaning of that name?
Hi Joan:
When the Dutch settled the area that is now Albany, they called it Ft. Orange, hence the name of the club.
You can find more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Orange
